Repton

Repton

One of the country’s leading co-educational boarding & day schools...

About our School

Founded in 1557 in the heart of England, and with easy access from Birmingham, London and the North, Repton is today a flourishing community with a clear sense of purpose and momentum. As one of the country’s leading co-educational boarding and day schools for ages 3-18, we offer an exceptional, broad-based education, blending heritage with the pursuit of excellence in a 21st-century context and providing outstanding pastoral care and teachers who encourage, inspire and stretch.

Repton has just over 1000 pupils making it large enough to achieve that excellence in and out of the classroom, yet small enough for individuals to flourish and develop. All pupils, whether day or boarding, are members of a house community and enjoy the close friendship, support and sense of identity that this brings.

Whilst it is undoubtedly modern in terms of practice and outlook, the traditional values of encouraging pupils to aim high for themselves while demonstrating respect for all remain of utmost importance. The School recognises the importance of being able to offer a Repton education to potential pupils from all backgrounds by providing Scholarships and Bursaries in a wide range of subjects.

Culture and Ethos

Repton is committed to a full-boarding education, which sits alongside a flexible approach for day pupils, with both jointly accommodated in the house structure and all able to access a vibrant and comprehensive extracurricular programme.
Pupils arrive with an open mind and leave with a happy heart, secure in the knowledge that they have the grades required and the life-long friends that matter. Reptonians accomplish incredible things, going on to become academics, entrepreneurs, doctors, business leaders, Olympians, Premiership footballers and Test Match cricketers, actors on stage and screen, virtuoso musicians, choral scholars and creatives. @ReptonSchool

Academic

In the ISI Inspection in February 2020 Repton was judged ‘Excellent’ in both Achievement and Personal Development, confirming that a Repton education is not only safe and ordered, but is a happy experience of the highest quality. Repton is proud to be the custodians of such a truly excellent school. The inspiration provided by skilled and committed teachers adds real value to the pupils experience, and, though the School is relatively non-selective, this creates purpose and ambition in pupils which opens doors to Russell Group universities, Oxbridge and, increasingly, to the American Ivy League, often with scholarships.

Facilities

The grounds and facilities reflect those twin aspects of the School’s ethos: heritage and innovation. A lesson might be taught in a beautiful 12th-century classroom in the Old Priory or in a state-of-the art laboratory in The Science Priory. Around the site too, our sportsmen and women play on well-tended grass football and cricket pitches but will also find themselves training and playing in a brand new, £9m sports centre or on the international-standard, water-based hockey pitches. The traditions of the 19th-century Chapel sit easily too alongside the characterful yet modern appeal of the ten boarding houses. The School is committed to an ambitious programme of further refurbishment and development of new facilities to meet the high aspirations of the next generation of Reptonians.

Sport

Sport pumps through the veins of Repton and carries pupils both across the country and across the world. The illustrious heritage is matched by the extraordinary achievements of pupils, as individuals and as teams. Not only are Repton the leading hockey school in the country, but Repton also ranks in the top three for football. A new Director of swimming joins the School in September 2020 from his current role as coach of the Australian Olympic swimming squad.

Repton believes in the pursuit of academic excellence and success, but this is not at the expense of an all-round and broad education. Pupils flourish both in and out of the classroom and they develop the skills, qualities and values that will lead to a successful and fulfilling life.

“Pupils are thoughtful and mature young people who understand themselves well, and they are consequently prepared exceptionally well for life after school” (ISI Report 2020)
