Royal County of Berkshire Polo Club
The home of modern polo...
The Berkshire, near Windsor, stands out as one of the UK’s top-tier polo clubs and classic events spaces, boasting world-class sporting facilities, including six pristine polo fields, the UK’s first all-weather polo arena, stabling to accommodate over 200 horses, two tennis courts, a croquet lawn and an esteemed polo academy.
Founded by the late rock and roll impresario Bryan Morrison, RCBPC has been at the forefront of fashionable society since founding member HRH The Prince of Wales officially opened the club in 1985. Throughout the years, the club and its legendary members’ clubhouse has proved a centre of convergence for Hollywood superstars and rock and roll royalty to bond over a love of polo without the antiquated social barriers of traditional clubs.
RCBPC is proud to host the world’s most prestigious players and horses during our dynamic year-long social calendar of events, ranging from beginners’ polo to High Goal (22), as well as summer tournaments such as The Prince of Wales Trophy and winter tournaments such as the famous Arena Gold Cup.
Today, RCBPC represents an internationally renowned sports and lifestyle universe that seeks to further innovate and develop polo as a truly inclusive sport fit for the modern world.
The International Day - July 28th 2018
2018 will see RCBPC, in conjunction with the Hurlingham Polo Association (HPA), host 'The International Day’. The prestigious annual polo spectacular, showcasing an England Test Match against international opposition either playing for the Coronation Cup or The Westchester Cup.
The International Day has always been one of the highest profile sporting events in the British summer calendar and as always this world-class day will be one of the stand-out social events of the year.
The Coronation Cup was first played for in 1911 to honour the coronation of King George V, grandfather to our current Queen. The Westchester Cup was created in 1876 and is always played for by teams from the USA and England.
Following on from last year, a Ladies International, featuring England Ladies will also be on the schedule, highlighting the importance of women's polo across the globe.
Jamie Morrison, Chairman of the Royal Berkshire welcomed the announcement saying, “We are honoured that what has historically been one of the most prestigious and historic events of the polo year, is coming to our club.
“Innovation has been at our core since our inception and as those who follow polo will know, we have never been afraid to try new things. So we are really looking forward to working more closely with the HPA seeing what we can bring to the Coronation Cup for all those involved.”
The HPA have had an excellent relationship over many years with Guards Polo Club and they have been a great partner in staging truly memorable Coronation Cup events, and we are grateful for the many years they have hosted the Coronation cup."
